MOSTAR, November 16 (FENA) – The contract for the construction of the Poprikuša-Nemila section, worth a little more than 208 million euros, was signed on Monday in Mostar by the director of the FBiH Motorways Adnan Terzić, the project manager of “Cengiz Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S.” from Turkey, Evren Utku Gok on behalf of the contractor, the FBiH Minister of Transport and Communications Denis Lasić and Muamer Hajduk as a witness on behalf of the contractor.
The director of the FBiH Motorways, Adnan Terzić, said that this was a rather complicated section with a total length of 5.5 kilometers.
“We have a tunnel about 3.6 kilometers long, a viaduct and a connection to the M-17 main road. We used this agreement to establish an additional procedure together with the experts of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) when it comes to tender evaluation, in which we ensured maximum reduction of risk for investors when it comes to possible price escalation and extension of construction. It was also our preparation for tendering the Prenj tunnel, which will be done according to this principle,” said Terzić.
Minister of Transport and Communications Denis Lasić said that this was the ninth contract signed in the last year and a half.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has slowed down and hampered the activities of the economy and many others, but these are good examples in road infrastructure with an emphasis on Corridor Vc, where the ninth contract has been signed in the last year and a half. I have no doubt that the contractor will do all this in a quality period of 42 months and at a very high level, and perhaps much faster than planned,” said Lasić.
He added that in those 42 months, a part of the Vc corridor from Putnikova brda to Drivuša will be connected so that 74 kilometers of the motorway will be in operation.
The project manager Evren Utku Gok said the company “Cengiz insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S.” in BiH, activities began in 2012.
“In 2012, Cengiz started in BiH with the construction of the section of the motorway from Vlakovo to Tarčin in the length of 20 kilometers and continued in 2018, with the construction of the section Donja Gračanica – Zenica Tunnel in the length of four kilometers. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, our company is just finishing the southern subsection,” said Utku Gok.
The construction of the Poprikuša-Nemila section will be financed with funds secured under a loan agreement concluded with the EBRD in the amount of EUR 70 million, the European Investment Bank (EIB) in the amount of EUR 90 million and a European Union grant in the amount of EUR 41.1 million, provided under the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) Connectivity Agenda.
Of the significant facilities, the 3,6 kilometers long Golubinja tunnel, two bridges, two viaducts, the Poprikuša loop and a traffic control center will be built.
The construction of the Golubinja tunnel will shorten the distance between Nemila and Poprikuša by about five kilometers.
