SARAJEVO, December 12 (FENA) – Bosnian film director Jasmila Žbanić won the “European Director of 2021” award at the 34th European Film Awards while her latest masterpiece ‘Quo Vadis, Aida?’ was named the best European Film of 2021 during the ceremony which was held on Saturday night in Berlin.
The lead actress in the film, Jasna Đuričić, was named the best actress in Europe for 2021.
Out of a total of nineteen categories, “Quo Vadis, Aida?” was nominated in four – for best European film in 2021, best director, best actress and best screenwriter.
In her speech, Jasmila Žbanić thanked first of all the women of Srebrenica, to whom she dedicated the film.
She also thanked the entire cast and everyone who supported her.
“I thank the Women of Srebrenica who are the strongest voice of peace today. I dedicate this award to my daughter as well, who inspires me to be more responsible for the generation of women who will build a better Europe than the one we have today,” said Žbanić, accepting the award.
“Quo Vadis, Aida?” was nominated for an Oscar by the American Film Academy and a BAFTA Award by the British Film Academy, and has won the Independent Spirit Awards and more than 30 awards at various world festivals.
