NEUM, January 30 (FENA) – Director for the Western Balkans at the European External Action Service Angelina Eichorst said in Neum that progress has been made and that the talks between political leaders in BiH would continue in the coming days.
“We had constructive talks on complex issues and in the end, I can say that the talks will continue,” said Eichorst.
She added that the primary purpose was to provide a better understanding of the requirements for the implementation of the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights in the Sejdić-Finci case.
“But also other judgments according to which the elimination of discrimination would be ensured, primarily in the provisions concerning the Presidency and the Houses of Peoples (the state and the entity one),” Eichorst pointed out.
The US Special Envoy for Electoral Reform Matthew Palmer says ensuring democratic processes and a fair election process is something to strive for.
“We ended the talks in Neum, but we did not reach the end of the process. An appropriate electoral model needs to be drawn that will enable Croats in BiH to have adequate representation in all of the institutions.
According to Palmer, it is also important to ensure that the BiH institutions are strong enough and that all issues discussed in the end must be resolved.
“We will be there as partners in the process, but it is up to the political leaders of this country to bring these issues to a final agreement and implementation,” he pointed out.
Palmer concluded that a set of measures that will enable greater transparency and integrity of the process itself and the conduct of the elections itself is something that will guarantee success.
