SARAJEVO, August 12 (FENA) – Al Jazeera Balkans has confirmed that the third edition of the AJB DOC Film Festival will be held from September 11 to 15 in Sarajevo, in a customized format.
In the conditions of the Covid-19 pandemic, many cultural events and even festivals have been canceled or their holding has been postponed. This also includes domestic, international, documentary film and music events. In such an atmosphere, many organizers decided to move the program to online platforms, so that the audience is not deprived of these cultural events.
Director of the AJB DOC Film Festival, Edhem Fočo, confirmed for FENA that the third edition of this festival, planned for September 11-15 in Sarajevo, will be held in a customized format.
“We are aware of the fact that it is very important for documentary filmmakers to work and produce continuously, but also to have a place to present their work. Although we have no financial gain from the organization itself, we put the authors in the foreground and in accordance with the social engagement of our company, Al Jazeera Balkans, we decided to hold AJB DOC in a reduced and adapted edition.
We will point out important and serious topics that are current in the world of documentary film and show our loyal audience the best 18 achievements, of which seven are local and regional films. We are happy because the interest for AJB DOC grows each year and the attendance is increasing. That is why we will adapt to the measures and the situation, but we will continue to work,” says Fočo.
As in previous years, the Competition Selection will feature documentaries intended for television broadcasting, the Last Minute Cinema selection will present feature-length documentaries, and ‘AJB Presents’ will bring together the best documentaries from the regional production. The program of this year’s AJB DOC Film Festival will be officially presented soon.
The theme of the third AJB DOC Film Festival is “Voyage”, a journey that is permeated by this year’s documentary stories, but also by the reality we are surrounded by, physically limited and set by boundaries, and at the same time immersed in their personal journeys in search of meaning and strength.
In addition to screenings, in cooperation with the Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha, AJB DOC organizes ‘Mobile Documentary Film Production’ training, in cooperation with the Al Jazeera Media Institute in Doha.
Students of the Performing Arts and Film Academies, producers, journalists and all creatives can apply for the training led by Adnen Chaouachi, a Tunisian journalist and TV producer and a longtime associate of the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
The three-day training will be held online via the Zoom application with a limited number of direct participants and an additional number of observers.
All participants in the training will be awarded Certificates of Participation by the Al Jazeera Media Institute.
Applications are available via the official festival website ajbdoc.ba.
All participants will have one month to develop their own ideas for a mobile phone documentary film. The training leader and representatives of the Organizer will select the best idea for realization, and award it with a prize of 1500 Euros, a Samsung Note 20 Ultra mobile phone and mentoring support in the filming process. That documentary will also be shown at the next edition of the AJB DOC Film Festival.
The Federal News Agency FENA is a media sponsor of the AJB DOC Film Festival this year as well.
The organizers presented FENA with a thank-you note ahead of this year’s edition of the festival.
