TUZLA, June 21 (FENA) – On the occasion of the World Refugee Day, UNHCR office in BiH organized an exhibition of photographs titled “Together we can achieve everything” in Tuzla.
The photo exhibition shows 19 photographs taken through the lens of Vanes Pilav throughout BiH, which depict the state of displacement and statelessness in the period from 2018 to 2020.
With this exhibition, UNHCR also marked the opening of a field office in Tuzla, which seeks to help the authorities support their experience in building capacity to respond in a timely manner to the needs of vulnerable categories, including those fleeing conflict and persecution.
The UNHCR office in Tuzla will help strengthen the capacity of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs.
UNHCR Representative in BiH Lucie Gagne told the media that the event marks the resilience and strength of refugees coming to BiH.
“This is an opportunity to remind government institutions of responsibility and that we should work together to prevent this crisis in the world,” says Gagne.
She stated that the situation in the world regarding refugees is not very good. The last ten years have seen a significant increase in refugees, and the refugee population has doubled to 82 million, of whom 42 percent are children.
There are many reasons why people leave their countries, some for economic reasons and some are forced because of persecution and war.
“Our task in Tuzla is to help local authorities in identifying those who need help and to direct them to find solutions, which mostly includes the most vulnerable, namely women and children,” underlines Gagne.
Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton, Kadrija Hodžić, points out that this is an opportunity to work on the problem of refugees, and this is a local problem that the Tuzla Canton cannot face on its own. He expressed gratitude to UNHCR for thier readiness to assist the Government of the Tuzla Canton and the population in facing the problem of accepting people and understanding their vulnerability.
