SOFIA, August 31 (FENA) – Prime Minister Boyko Borissov sent a congratulatory address to his counterpart Zoran Zaev, occasioned by his reelection to the post in the Republic of North Macedonia, the Cabinet press service informed on Monday, BTA reported.
In his address, Borissov says that Bulgaria is tirelessly promoting the right of the citizens of North Macedonia to become part of the European family. He adds that Bulgaria remains a staunch supporter of its neighbor’s European future, led by the belief that North Macedonia’s EU accession process will be a major drive for reforms and stability.
Borissov’s congratulatory message also points out that the two countries must remain responsible and committed to achieving the goals set in 2017 by the Treaty on friendship, good neighborliness and cooperation. The Bulgarian Prime Minister expresses hope that the Joint Bulgaria-North Macedonia Multidisciplinary Expert Commission will soon find a constructive solution to the historical and educational issues under discussion.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ekaterina Zaharieva sent congratulatory letters to newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister in charge of European Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov, and to newly appointed Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry press center informed on Monday.
In her letter, Zaharieva underscores that North Macedonia’s progress toward joining the EU will depend on its efforts to strengthen friendship with its neighbors and adhere to the Treaty on good neighborliness.
