BLED, September 1 (FENA) – High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt said in Bled today that the European Community has failed when it comes to the enlargement process and especially when it comes to North Macedonia and Albania.
He referred to the speech of the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, who said that the countries of the Western Balkans were not left room for conversation, agreeing with him, but at the same time expressing hope that the EU would work harder and that in the future it would prove gim wrong.
“The European Union is a living organization and we know and understand that these six countries of the Western Balkans must be part of the European Union. Some believe that the population of these countries is losing confidence in the European project,” he warned.
He notes that it is not possible to say the year when some of the countries will be part of the EU, but all these are also reasons why the European Commission changed its approach because people need to feel that the concern for them exists. However, much remains to be done, from the rule of law to the economic structure.
Speaking about the fact that BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik was not present at today’s Bled Strategic Forum, the High Representative emphasized that blockades cannot be part of politics, but actually they just show weakness.
“We are sitting here and exchanging arguments and trying to find a solution for development and therefore everyone should be invited and present,” concluded Schmidt.
