TIRANA, Nov 29 (FENA/ATA) – Seismologist LLambo Duni says that Durres is not at risk from a tsunami refuting the recent fake news.
Seismologist Duni affirms that the tsunami warning is unsubstantiated. He went on saying that the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Albania on Tuesday is unlikely to cause a disaster.
“Our data are disseminated to all centers around the world (when the alert was given by the Italian Institute of Earthquakes). Our data is sent out in real-time to all centers, in America and Europe. We have real-time links to these sites, to determine whether tsunamis if they can be generated in our country, can be used. They sound the alarm that these need to be reviewed. Not every alarm raised is valid. In our case it was not valid as the 6.3 magnitude is not of the size as to trigger a tsunami. The epicenter of the earthquake was not in the middle of the Adriatic, but on the Albanian coast, where there is no water column. It is impossible for an earthquake of this size to cause a tsunami, ”Duni said.
