SARAJEVO, April 17 (FENA) – An increased number of charter flights is expected at the Sarajevo International Airport this year, especially to Turkey and Egypt, confirmed the management of the airport for FENA.
As Belma Čureković, expert associate for communication and information at the Sarajevo International Airport, told FENA, the coronavirus pandemic affected the reduction of traffic in general, as well as the number of charter flights and the interest of passengers in tourist travel in 2020.
“The situation has significantly improved in 2021, especially with the beginning of the summer season due to easing of epidemiological measures in the world, which has also affected the increase in traffic at the Sarajevo Airport,” said Čureković.
As part of the summer flight schedule, which came into force on March 27, it is planned that 22 airlines (regular and charter) will perform air operations to 34 European and world destinations, as follows: Istanbul, Frankfurt, Dubai, Stockholm, Zurich, Riyadh, Jeddah, Sharjah, Vienna, Belgrade, Zagreb, Antalya, Hurghada, Bale / Mulhouse, Cologne, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Memmingen, Eindhoven, Copenhagen, Paris, Gothenburg, Bodrum, Charleroi, Manama, Kuwait, Oman, Amman, Abu Dhabi, London, Warsaw, Treviso and Doha.
Regarding the number of passengers in 2021, 767,134 passengers were recorded at the Sarajevo International Airport, while in 2019 the number of 1,143,680 passengers was recorded, which means that 67 percent of the traffic from 2019 was realized.
“According to ACI Europe statistics, before the pandemic we were the tenth airport in the region in terms of number of passengers, and now we take the seventh place in terms of number of passengers in the region,” said Čureković for FENA.
